Microlighting Derbyshire

Microlighting in Derbyshire means flying with champions! This venue isn’t just an airfield it’s a veritable airpark with a whole host of aerial activities on offer including these have a go flights in flex or fixed wing microlights flown by champions. Chief Flying Instructor Chris Dawes is a display pilot and world record holder. He loves free flying and gets airborne in a variety of ways but today he’ll be showing you how to fly a microlight. Chris has been on TV many times in the air sits on the board of various aviation committees and trains and examines microlight pilots. His partner Judy is also a world record breaker and holder of an MBE whilst the other microlight pilots at the venue have all clocked up many hours in the machines and are all CAA approved. This Derbyshire school has both types of microlight for you to try. Flexwing (or weight-shift/trike) microlights have a hang-glider shaped canopy and in the small open cockpit the pilot and passenger sit one behind the other. The newly acquired fixed wing microlight is an Ikarus C42 that despite looking like a conventional aeroplane is still classed as a microlight as it’s light but the controls are very similar with the two seats side by side. We are offering 20 30 40 and 60 minute microlighting in Derbyshire and if you decide to take the sport further the time you clock up on this experience will count towards your microlight pilot’s licence. Once airborne you will be over some of the famous Derbyshire countryside such as Carsington Water Ashbourne and Dove Dale.
